B arry has coached and educated financial advisers for close to 40 years. After graduating from the University of Alberta in 1974, he entered the Canadian Financial services industry; in that time he has been an adviser, senior Mutual funds executive and educator.
His focus is on client communication, particularly helping advisers reach maturing clients to help those clients understand the retirement issues they will face. Barry’s formal education concentrated on Psychology and a focus on how we think, act and make decisions. This has become the foundation of the work that he does today.
He was an originator of the “Life” based approach to financial planning as far back as 2002. Since that time, he has written several books on the subject for advisers; his latest is The Life-First Adviser, published in six countries in 2017. In addition, he has been a major contributor to the course work presented by The Canadian Securities Institute and an original faculty member of the Elder Planning program.
Barry LaValley’s current clients can be found around the globe. He currently works with financial advisers and their firms in the U.S., Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and India.
